Victorian Education Workers to join the Child Information Sharing Scheme
The 19th of April 2021 marks the return to term 2 for Victorian students as well as the commencement of the updated Child Information Sharing Scheme.
The Child Information Sharing Scheme permits education workers to share certain information regarding children impacted by abuse.
The call for change stems from child protective services often not receiving enough information to detect a family is in need of assistance, resulting in undetected abuse or neglect.
As of the 19th of April 2021 education workers including; school teachers, childcare workers and kindergarden teachers will be able to report information concerning a child's safety at home without the need of any consent. The scheme has also been extended to Hospital workers and Ambulance Victoria.
Educators have been receiving training since mid 2020 on their responsibilities within the scheme.
